High School Football America
It's a typical day in San Francisco...foggy and rainy, but the Giants win over the Phillies seems to have everything thinking the sun is shining.
Like every weekend, there are plenty of WOW-type stories to share.
The stop us if you can game was played in Cerritos, California where Valley Christian outlasted Maranatha 70-64 in five overtimes. To check-out all of the offense, read the game summary from the Pasadena Star-News. The national record for overtimes in a high school game is nine set back in 1977 in Michigan by Detroit Southeastern and Detroit Northeastern and then tied in 2006 when Bothell beat Pasco 43-40 in nine overtimes in a Washington 4A quarterfinal game. The video from that game is below.
The Valley Christian-Maranatha game started at 7 and ended at 11:30...that's a two full games of football for the price of one. That's a good deal in today's economy!
Indiana high school football fans are still talking about their big first round playoff upset. The state's #1 Class 5A team and defending state champ Warren Central was beaten by Lawrence Central 35-14. The Indy Star reports that Lawrence Central (9-1) jumped-out to a 14-0 lead and never looked back in defeating the nationally-ranked Warriors.
