Joliet Catholic Goes For Record 13th Illinois Title

After a two year absence from an IHSA championship game, Joliet Catholic (12-1) will go after an Illinois state record 13th high school football championship on Saturday when the Hilltoppers play Lemont (11-2) in the 6A championship game at the University of Illinois.

It should be a ground war with both teams having excellent rushing attacks with five runners over the 1,000 yard mark this year. Joliet Catholic features three running backs that have rush for 1,000 yards (Tyler Hudetz 1,561 yds., Brandon Geiss 1,233 yds. and Connor Krisch 1,011 yds.). Lemont leading rusher is Bobby Earnest who's run for 1,771 yards and 27 touchdowns. Quarterback Brett Nagel has rushed for 1,443 yards and 21 scores.

Joliet has one twelve straight since losing its opener to arch-rival Mount Carmel. The Hilltoppers have averaged 46 points a game and 476 yards in total offense per game. Lemont, which is making its first championship game appearance, is averaging 37 points a game and 313 yards per game rushing.
