Shattuck (OK) Rewrites Record Book with 91st Straight Win

There's a new national record for consecutive wins by an 8-Man high school football team. Shattuck won its 91st game Friday night, beating Goodwell 40-14 to move past former record holder Morrison, also from Oklahoma.

The Indians last loss was at the end of the 2002 season in a playoff loss to eventual state champ Pond Creek-Hunter. Since then, Shattuck has claimed six straight Class C titles.

NewsOK.com reports that the new record wasn't really in doubt as the Indians took control from their very first possession.

Last night, Smith Center in Kansas beat Washington County 62-7 for the school's 73rd straight victory, which moves the Redmen past Hudson (Michigan) High School, which held the national record win streak record at 72 (1968-1975) straight until De La Salle broke it in the 90's. Smith Center's streak is now the fifth longest in America. Next up is Maryville (TN) with 74 straight.

Tiny Oklahoma School Closes-in on 8-Man Record for Consecutive Wins

A tiny school in northwest Oklahoma is closing-in on history.

The Shattuck Indians are going after their 89th straight win today against Balko.

A victory would put Shattuck one win away from tying the national 8-man record for consecutive wins that is currently held by Morrison, also from the Sooner State.

Actually, the Indians had expected to tie the record with a victory today, but the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association ruled earlier this week that a 2003 scheduled game against Yarborough that was cancelled and ruled a forfeit, was no longer a win. That left the Indians win streak 88 instead of 89 going into today's contest.

If Shattuck wins today, it will be able to tie the record when it plays Sharon-Mutual on October 23rd. The record breaker would then come on October 30th against Goodwell.

Shattuck's current streak began in the 2003 season. Morrison's record-setting win streak was set from 1989 to 1995.

Check back later tonight to see if Shattuck is able to pull within one of the record.

High School Football's Active Win Streaks

With South Panola (MS) and Maryville (TN) losing on back-to-back days last December, Smith Center of Kansas owns the nation's longest active high school football win streak. South Panola's streak, which is the third longest all-time in high school football ended at 89, while Maryville ended at 74.

Next month, you'll be able to learn a lot more about the Smith Center Redmen when New York Times write Joe Drape's book Our Boys comes out on August 18th. Drape moved to his family to the small town of 1,931 to do the book. You can learn move about Drape's book at www.joedrape.com.

Texas Showdown To Be Played at Neutral Site

The two teams with the longest regular season win streaks in Texas high school football history have decided that their 2009 match-up will be played on a neutral site.

Galena Park North Shore, which is currently on a 78-game regular season win streak, will face Southlake Carroll at Corsicana High School on September 26th. The two were scheduled to play a home-and-home series starting last year, but that game was cancelled because of Hurricane Ike.

Lakeland (FL) Wins Streak Snapped One-Week After Setting Record

It took less than a week for Lakeland's Florida state-record win streak to be snapped. Kissimmee Osceola scored 18 fourth quarter points to stop Lakeland's streak at 53 straight wins with a 25-21 win before 7,000 fans.
