Centennial Wins Arizona/Nevada State Champions Battle

Centennial showed Nevada football fans that it deserves its USA Today Super 25 ranking on Saturday with a 51-20 win over defending Nevada 4A champ McQueen in the Barry Sollenberger Kickoff Classic in Reno. Centennial, which entered the game ranked #9 by USA Today, now owns a 27-game win streak. AzCentral.com has all of the game details.

#22 Hamilton Beaten in Battle of Arizona Powers

Centennial (Peoria, AZ) made it's case that's it's the best team in Arizona with a solid 35-16 win over nationally-ranked Hamilton (Chandler, AZ) Friday night.

Hamilton, which beat Florida power Booker T. Washington to open the season and Brophy Prep last week, entered the game ranked #22 by USA Today. Centennial is now 2-0 on the season, while Hamilton falls to 2-1.

Brophy Prep Captures Arizona 5A Division I Title

For the second time in the last three years, Brophy Prep is the top big school team in Arizona.

Brophy Prep beat Desert Vista Saturday 34-21 to claim the title. Brophy was led by senior quarterback Bryan Berens, who also was the starting QB in 2005. Berens completed 15 of 27 passes for 176 yards and three touchdowns.

#12 Hamilton Upset in Arizona Semis

Defending Arizona 5A Division I state champ Hamilton (Chandler, AZ) won't be back in Phoenix next week to defend its title.

Brophy Prep (11-2) beat Hamilton 24-14 in the rain Friday night in the state semis. Brophy will play Desert Vista in next week's championship game.

Valley Union Grabs Arizona 1A Title

Valley Union captured the Arizona 1A high school football championship Saturday behind a strong running attacked that helped the team from Elfrida cruise to a 28-12 win over Pima.

Kenny Brown and Luis Martinez were workhorses for Valley Union. Brown finished with 199 yards and 16 carries and two touchdowns, while Martinez rushed for 137 yards on 29 carries and Valley Union's other two scores.
