When it comes to Turkey Day football, Easton versus Phillipsburg is like the Rose Bowl....it's the granddaddy of them all. On Thursday, Easton and P'burg hooked up for their 100th game. On-hand, like usual 16,000-plus fans and this year a national television audience on ESPN 2.
This two schools are neighbors, only separated by the width of the Delaware River. This year, Phillipsburg entered the game on a 22-game win streak and only a couple of wins away from its second straight New Jersey state championship. Easton brought an 11-1 record into the game, and knowing that it had a district championship game to play in two days on Saturday.
In the end it was the Easton's defense, which recorded eight shutouts in twelve games, that was the difference as the Red Rovers beat Phillipsburg 21-7.
