2006 didn't start off in the usual fashion for Independence, but it ended the usual way....with a state championship. The Patriots beat Durham Riverside 49-19 Saturday for the school's 7th straight state title, which extended its win streak to 108 straight.
This year's team wasn't the most explosive and dominating, but in the end tradition won out behind a ground attack that amassed 314 yards in the title game.
