by Jeff Fisher
The High School Football Huddle

The 50th anniversary of the first and only NFL game to be played in Maine was celebrated Saturday during the Bangor/Skowhegan game played in Bangor. The New York Giants played the Green Bay Packers in a pre-season game on September 5, 1959 at Bangor's Garland Street football field. The Portland Press Herald takes a look at the historic event that marked the first-season of Vince Lombardi as the Packers head coach.

Last night, Bangor beat defending Eastern Maine Class A champ Skowhegan 41-12. Check-out the game wrap-up from the Bangor Daily News.
