The High School Football Huddle
With a national television audience from ESPN looking on, Aplington-Parkersburg got down to the business of playing a football game without its long-time coach Ed Thomas, who was murdered in June. A-P opened the season with a 30-14 win over Dike-New Hartford. The Des Moines Register has a recap, plus the first interview with Joan Becker, mother of Thomas' alleged killer's Mark Becker, who's scheduled to stand trial on charges of first degree murder on September 15th.
