#19 Pittsburgh Central Catholic Avoids Upset
On a weekend that had already seen Pennsylvania #3 team lose, the top 4A team in the Keystone State, Pittsburgh Central Catholic, survived a scare Saturday.
The Vikings, ranked #1 by both the Harrisburg Patriot-News and Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, beat Norwin 28-20. PCC (6-0) jumped out to a 28-nothing halftime lead, however, the second half was all Norwin (3-3).
Norwin had closed to within a touchdown, and was driving late in the game for a possible tying score when Andrew Taglianetti picked-off an Alex Dennison pass with 2:47 remaing to seal the victory. Earlier in the game, Dennison hooked-up with Mike Shanahan for a 98-yard touchdown pass.
It was the second time this year that Norwin came close to upsetting a team that USA Today had ranked in it's national Super 25 poll. A couple of week's ago Norwin lost by three points to Gateway, which then was ranked #24 by USA Today. Pittsburgh Central Catholic is currently ranked #19 by the national paper.
