#9 Cardinal Mooney (OH) Overcomes 17-0 Deficit To Avoid Upset

It took Cardinal Mooney (Youngstown, OH) offense three quarters to wake-up in Friday night's come-from-behind 21-17 win over Akron St. Vincent-St.Mary....yes Lebron's school can also play some football.

Mooney entered the game as Ohio's #1 Division IV team, while SV-SM was #4. Of course, USA Today says the Mooney (8-0) is the ninth best team in the land.

St. Vincent-St. Mary took advantage of a sold-out home crowd to take a 17-0 lead into the fourth quarter behind a 61-yard touchdown pass by quarterback Roger Wilson, a 43-yard field goal by Igor Ilibasic and a one-yard touchdown run by Carnell Evans.

However, Notre Dame recruit, senior quarterback Dan McCarthy came to life in the fourth. McCarthy's one-yard run cut the lead to 17-7. Then two minutes later, McCarthy hooked-up with Tim Marlowe on a 62-yard pass to get CM to within three. The winning score came with 2:43 left when McCarthy tossed a 23-yard scoring pass to Mike Gemma.

However, that wasn't the final nail in the coffin, as Cardinal Mooney's defense had to stop Wilson on a fourth-and-goal at the Cardinals' one-yard line with 45 seconds left.
