#6 Southlake Carroll (TX) Championship Run Is Over
Another streak has come to an end for the Southlake Carroll Dragons.
The #6 team in the USA Today Super 25 lost to Abilene 22-21 on Saturday in the 5A Division II regional finals. It was the first lost to a Texas (58 straight) team since losing the Katy 16-15 in the 2003 5A Division II championship game. It also snaps the school's championship streak of three straight. The Dragons won the the 5A Division I title last year and the 5A Division II title in 2004 and 2005, plus a 5A Division II in 2002.
On September 15th Northwestern (FL) beat the Dragons snapping their 49-game overall win streak.
For a while on Saturday it looked like Southlake Carroll (11-2) was going to keep the streak alive.
After getting the ball at its own 8 with 2:28 to play, the Dragons drove to the Abilene 10. On a second-and-4, the Dragons fumbled...Abilene (12-1) recovered and ran out the clock.
