Northwestern (FL) Claims Top Spot in Newest USA Today Top 25 Poll

In the chase for the mythical national high school football championship, all that Northwestern High School (Miami, FL) has to do to capture it, is win the rest of its games. Thanks to its Saturday win over previous #1 Southlake Carroll (TX), the Bulls climbed to the top spot in the first in-season USA Today Super 25.

As far as the rest of the rankings, Cardinal Mooney (Youngstown, OH) is the biggest mover. Mooney, which beat former #10 Gateway (Monroeville, PA) in the Ohio vs. USA Challenge, goes from #25 to #11. Meanwhile, Gateway, which has now won two straight since that loss falls from #10 to #25.

Speaking of falling, former #3 Independence (Charlotte, NC) had its 109-game win streak snapped in the Ohio vs. USA Challenge, and now finds itself ranked #24.

Entering the poll this week, South Panola (Batesville, MS) at #15. The Mississippi school was left out of the pre-season poll by mistake and now owns the nation's longest win streak at 63. The other three new teams: #16 Hamilton (Chandler, AZ), #17 Muskegon (MI) and #20 Union (Tulsa, OK).
