Top-Ranked Southlake Carroll (TX) Rolls to 49th Straight Win In Season Opener

Former Southlake Carroll head coach Todd Dodge was in the house Friday night to watch his son and Dragon quarterback Riley begin his final season...and he wasn't all that disappointed as his former team won its 49th straight with a 42-10 win over Lake Highlands. The 49th straight win ties the state record for most in Texas big school history set by Abilene.

There were a few anxious moments for new head coach Hall Wasson. The Dragons took an early 7-0 lead, but fell behind 10-7 on a couple of Riley Dodge interceptions. After that it was all Southlake and Dodge, who ended up 19-of-31 for 349 yards and four touchdowns.

The Dragons will go for the state record for consecutive wins next Saturday when it squares of against Northwestern High from Miami in a nationally televised game on ESPN. Southlake is ranked #1 by USA Today and Northwestern is ranked #2.
