Long Beach Poly Squeezes Past Orange Lutheran

The minimum number of points two teams can score in a football game and win is two.

Long Beach Poly beat defending California Division II champ Orange Lutheran 2-0 Friday night to advance to the CIF Southern Section PAC-5 championship game. Poly used two outstanding goal line stands to reverse the 2006 playoff outcome when Orange Lutheran beat Poly by one-point.

The first goal line stand came in the first half when the Jackrabbits were able to stop O-L on four straight plays inside the 1 yard line. Then with 16-second to go in the game, Orange Lutheran fumbled inside the Poly one-yard line.

Poly's only points came on a safety when Orange Lutheran had a bad snap on a punt.

Poly will play Crespi next week for the PAC-5 championship. Crespi won its semifinal game, beating Servite 13-10 in overtime.
