Coming into Illinois 8A championship game, Maine South quarterback Charlie Gordo was known for winning games with his strong right arm. However, it was the Vanderbilt-bound QB's legs that carried the Hawks (14-0) to a 41-21 win over Hinsdale Central (11-3). Gordo, who entered the game with over 3,000 yards passing and 37 touchdowns, carried the ball 25 times for an 8A title game record 164 yards and a touchdown. Byrnes (#22 USA Today) got back at Dorman (#12 USA Today) Friday night to advance to the South Carolina Class 4A Division I championship game. Byrnes, which lost to Dorman by a touchdown during the regular season, won the semifinal contest 24-13. The defending champs will play Sumter next week for the state championship. Between the two schools there are eleven Ohio state football championships. Tonight St. Ignatius (#16 USA Today) squares-off with Elder (#18 USA Today) to decide who's the best Division 1 team in the state. St. Ignatius (13-1) has won nine state titles while Elder (13-1) has won two. Elder won back-to-back titles in 2002 and 2003. St. I's last title was in '0l.

Houston captured the schools first Minnesota high school football championship beating Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley Friday in the 9-man championship game at Minnesota's Prep Bowl XXVII. Both teams entered the game 13-0. CGB made a game of it in the fourth quarter coming back from a 14-0 deficit to take a 16-14 lead with five minutes to go in the game. Cardinal Ritter Halts Sheridan's Run of Championships

Sheridan's string of three straight Indiana high school football championships came to an end Friday. Cardinal Ritter scored the game-winning touchdown with 40 seconds to go in the game to lift the Raiders to a 34-27 win in the Class A title game at Lucas Oil Stadium. The loss closes out a four year run for Sheridan, which saw the program go 56-4 with a 44-game win streak. Click here for game story.

In what was supposed to be a tough 4AA quarterfinal match-up Friday night, the top-ranked Patriots dominated Butler 49-7. In the regular season finale, Independence beat Butler in a battle of unbeatens at the time. Click here for game story.

Westendorp set state finals records for completions, passing yards and total yards with a 26-for-33 performance for 318 yards. He had 426 yards in total offense. Lowndes run for its fourth Georgia high school football championship in five years came to a screeching halt Friday night losing to unbeaten Grayson 17-7. Leading the way for the Rams was a tiny running back, who came-up big. 5-3, 135-pound Ean Pemberton rushed for 188-yards and both Grayson touchdowns to move the school into its first state semifinals next week.
